Overview

The Store Average Rating widget highlights your store’s overall rating based on customer store reviews. It helps shoppers quickly understand your reputation and builds trust before they browse products.

What the widget shows

Where the widget can appear

You can display the Store Average Rating widget on any page where you want to reinforce credibility, such as:

  • Homepage

  • About Us page

  • Landing pages (campaign pages, influencer pages, etc.)

  • Footer sections

  • Dedicated review pages

If you add the widget in a shared section (like the footer), it may appear across multiple pages depending on your theme setup.


Install the Store Average Rating widget

There are two ways to add the widget to your storefront. Use the Shopify Theme Editor method if your theme supports app blocks.

Method 1: Add using Shopify Theme Editor (recommended)

This method is best for Online Store 2.0 themes and does not require editing theme code.

In Shopify Admin, go to Online Store → Themes, then click Customize on your active theme.

Use the page selector (top bar in the theme editor) to open the page/template where you want the widget to appear (for example: Home page, a specific page template, or a section like the footer).

Click Add block (or Add section, depending on your theme), then select Store Average Rating from the Rivyo app blocks.

Drag the block to the desired position, preview how it looks, and click Save.

Method 2: Manual installation (older themes)

If your theme does not support app blocks, you can install the widget by adding a small embed snippet where you want it to display.

In the Rivyo app, go to Reviews → Widget Styling → Store Average Rating.

Copy the provided snippet:

Paste the snippet into the theme template or page content where you want the widget to appear, then save your changes.

Manual installation edits your theme code. If you’re not comfortable making theme changes, use the Theme Editor method or ask your theme developer for help. A small mistake in theme files can affect storefront layout.


Customize the Store Average Rating widget

You can customize the message shown next to the stars (for example: “Customers rate us 4.9 based on 79 reviews”).

Go to Rivyo → Reviews → Widget Styling → Store Average Rating.

Update the text template to match your brand voice. Example:

Customers rate us {{%average%}} based on {{%rating%}} reviews.

Save your changes, then refresh your storefront page to confirm the updated text appears as expected.

Keep the message short and easy to scan. Shoppers should understand it in a glance—especially on mobile.


Troubleshooting

  • Confirm you added the Store Average Rating block on the correct page/template in the Theme Editor.

  • If you installed manually, confirm the snippet is placed in a visible section (not inside commented code or hidden containers).

  • Clear any storefront cache and refresh the page (try an incognito/private window).

  • The widget reflects your store reviews (not product reviews).

  • If you recently received new reviews, refresh the page and allow a short time for the storefront to update.

Use Method 2: Manual installation, or consider upgrading to an Online Store 2.0 theme for easier widget placement and future updates.
