Manual Review Requests

Overview

Manual Review Requests let you send a review request email to a specific customer, one at a time. This is useful when you don’t want to rely on your automatic review request settings (or when an automatic email wasn’t sent).

With a manual request, you choose:

  • Who receives the email (customer email address)
  • What they’re asked to review (up to 5 products per email)
Manual Review Requests are sent individually. They don’t change your automatic review request settings or schedule.

When to use manual review requests

Manual requests are especially helpful when:

  • You want feedback from a specific customer (VIPs, repeat buyers, wholesale customers, etc.).
  • A customer ordered before you enabled automatic review requests.
  • An automatic review request didn’t send (for example, the order didn’t meet your automation rules).
  • You want to resend a review request after a customer asked you to.
If you’re trying to collect reviews at scale, use your automatic review requests for most orders and reserve manual requests for exceptions.

How to send a manual review request

In your Shopify admin, open Rivyo, then go to Collect ReviewsReview Requests.

Open the Send Manual Requests tab.

  • Customer Name (optional): Helps you identify requests later in your records.
  • Customer Email Address: This is where the review request email will be sent.

Click Add Product, then select the product(s) you want the customer to review. You can include up to 5 products in a single email.

Click Send Review Request. The customer will receive an email inviting them to submit a review.

Review requests won’t send to customers who have unsubscribed from review request emails (see Unsubscribed emails below).

Request history

Every manual review request you send appears in the Request History section. Use it to confirm what was sent and track outcomes over time.

In Request History, you can see:

  • Date sent
  • Customer email address
  • Submission status (whether a review was submitted)

Filtering request history

To quickly find a specific request, use Filter by email and enter the customer’s email address. This is useful when a customer asks, “Can you resend the review link?” or when you’re checking whether a request was already sent.

Unsubscribed emails

Customers can choose not to receive review request emails. You can view these addresses in the Unsubscribed Emails list.

  • If an email address is on the unsubscribed list, Rivyo will not send review request emails to that customer.
  • This applies to both manual requests and any other review request emails that use the same opt-out list.
If a customer says they’re not receiving review requests, check the Unsubscribed Emails list first before resending.

Best practices (to get more reviews)

  • Send at the right time: Request a review after the order is likely delivered and the customer has had time to use the product.
  • Ask the right customers: Only send requests to customers who purchased (or received) the product you select.
  • Keep it focused: Include only the most relevant products—avoid adding 5 items unless the customer genuinely bought multiple products and would reasonably review them.
  • Don’t over-send: Repeated requests can annoy customers and reduce response rates. Resend only when it’s justified (for example, customer asked for it).
  • Personalize with care: If you use the optional customer name, ensure it’s accurate—incorrect names can reduce trust.
If you’re resending a request, space it out and keep it to one follow-up. Many stores see better results with one gentle reminder rather than multiple repeats.

FAQ
