Product Review Widget

Overview

The Product Review Widget displays your customer reviews directly on your product pages, so shoppers can see real feedback before they buy. Showing ratings and reviews on-product helps build trust and can improve conversion.

What the widget can show

  • Average star rating (overall score for the product)
  • Rating breakdown (how many 5-star, 4-star, etc.)
  • Customer reviews (written feedback)
  • Product Q&A (questions from shoppers and answers)
  • Customer photos (images attached to reviews)
  • Verified buyer badges (when enabled and supported by your settings)
For best results, place the widget where it’s easy to find without interrupting buying intent—most stores use the area below the product description or below the “Add to cart” section.

Where the widget appears

The Product Review Widget appears on your product pages, typically below the product description. Once installed, it automatically displays the reviews submitted for the specific product the shopper is viewing.

You can install and customize it from:

Rivyo → Reviews → Widget Styling → Product Review

If your theme uses a highly customized product template, the widget may appear in a slightly different position depending on how the product page is structured.

Install the Product Review Widget

Go to Shopify Admin for the store where you want the widget to appear.

Navigate to AppsRivyo Reviews & Loyalty.

In Rivyo, open ReviewsWidget Styling, then find Product Review.

Click Install.

After installation, the widget will be added to your product pages.

If you don’t see the widget after installing, confirm you’re viewing an actual product page (not a preview page without product data), and that the product has reviews (or your settings allow showing an empty state).

Customize the Product Review Widget

You can control how the widget looks and behaves from the Product Review settings page: Rivyo → Reviews → Widget Styling → Product Review

Layout & Structure

These settings control how reviews are arranged and displayed on the product page.

Average Rating Layout

Choose how the rating summary appears at the top of the widget. Depending on your selected style, the summary can include:

  • Overall rating (average stars)
  • Total review count
  • Rating distribution (bars showing how many reviews fall into each star level)

Review Layout Style

Choose how review cards are displayed:

  • Grid layout (reviews shown in tiles/cards)
  • List layout (reviews shown one after another in a vertical list)

This setting affects how each review appears to shoppers (spacing, density, and how quickly they can scan reviews).

Columns Per Row (Grid layout)

If you use Grid layout, set how many review cards appear in each row (for example: 2, 3, or 4 columns).

On mobile, fewer columns usually improves readability. If your theme is narrow, try 2 columns to avoid cramped review cards.

Reviews Per Page

Choose how many reviews appear before shoppers need to move to the next page (pagination). Lower values keep the product page shorter; higher values reduce how often shoppers need to paginate.

Sorting & Publishing

These options control the order of reviews and what shoppers see first.

Sorting Preference

Choose the default sort order on your storefront. Common options include:

  • Most Recent (newest reviews first)
  • Highest Rating (5-star first)
  • Lowest Rating (1-star first)
If your storefront allows shoppers to change the sort order, this setting controls the default view when the widget first loads.

Product Q&A

Product Q&A lets shoppers ask questions directly on the product page, and view answers in the same widget. This is helpful for common pre-purchase questions (fit, sizing, compatibility, materials, shipping details, etc.).

Enable Product Q&A

Turn this on to display a Q&A section inside the widget. When enabled, shoppers can submit questions, and answers appear beneath the relevant product.

Q&A works best when you answer quickly. Even a short, clear answer can prevent abandoned carts caused by uncertainty.

Best practices

  • Keep the rating summary visible: Make sure the average rating layout is easy to spot so shoppers can quickly judge product quality.
  • Choose a readable layout: Use List layout if your reviews are long, or Grid layout if you want a compact look.
  • Balance page length with detail: Set a reasonable Reviews Per Page so the page doesn’t feel endless, especially on mobile.
  • Use “Most Recent” for social proof: Recent reviews reassure shoppers that feedback is current.

Troubleshooting

  • Confirm the widget is installed under Rivyo → Reviews → Widget Styling → Product Review.
  • Check that you’re viewing a live product page (not a password page or a product that isn’t published).
  • If the product has no reviews yet, confirm whether your widget settings show an empty state or hide the widget until reviews exist.
  • If your theme uses a custom product template, the widget placement may differ from standard themes.
  • Try switching between Grid and List layout.
  • If using grid, reduce Columns Per Row to prevent tight spacing.
  • Lower Reviews Per Page to improve page readability and loading on long review threads.
  • Photos only appear on reviews where customers uploaded images.
  • Verified buyer badges display only when your settings and order verification rules support them.
