Import or Export Product Questions & Answers

Overview

Rivyo lets you import and export Product Questions & Answers using a CSV file. This is useful when you’re migrating from another app, uploading a set of FAQs in bulk, or creating a backup of your Q&A data.

  • Import questions (and optional answers) in bulk
  • Export your existing Q&A for reporting or backup
  • Move data between stores or platforms using a spreadsheet

You can manage Q&A imports and exports from:
Rivyo → Reviews → Question & Answers

Your CSV must reference products that already exist in your Shopify store. If a product can’t be matched (by handle/title as required by the template), those rows may be skipped or imported without attaching to the correct product.

Import Product Questions & Answers

Use Import when you already have Q&A from another platform, or when you want to upload a list of frequently asked questions quickly.

In your Shopify admin, open Rivyo, then go to Reviews and select Question & Answers.

Click Import to open the Import Questions & Answers window.

Download the sample CSV format before you upload your file. This template shows the exact column structure Rivyo expects.

Use the sample file as your working spreadsheet (fill in rows under the existing headers) to avoid formatting issues.

Add one row per question. If you have an answer, include it in the same row.

  • Keep column headers exactly as shown in the template.
  • Do not merge cells or add extra header rows.
  • Save the file as .csv (not .xlsx).

Click Add files, select your CSV, then click Import Q&A. After upload, Rivyo processes the file and adds the imported questions to your Q&A dashboard.

Required CSV fields

Your CSV must include the necessary details for each question. Column names can vary by template version, so follow the headings in the sample CSV you download from Rivyo.

  • Product identifier (for example: Product Handle or Product Title)
  • Customer Name
  • Customer Email
  • Question
  • Answer (optional)
  • Status (for example: published/hidden)
If the product identifier in your CSV doesn’t match a product in your Shopify catalog, Rivyo may not be able to attach the question to the right product.

Use the exact values shown in Rivyo’s sample CSV. If you’re unsure, import a small test file first (1–2 rows) and confirm the result in the Q&A list before importing a full dataset.

Yes. Leave the Answer field blank to import unanswered questions. You can answer them later from the Q&A dashboard.

Typically, each CSV row represents a single question (and optionally one answer). If you need multiple answers, import the question first and manage follow-up replies in the app where available.

What happens after an import

After Rivyo finishes processing your CSV:

  • Your questions appear in Rivyo → Reviews → Question & Answers.
  • You can review, edit, publish, or hide imported questions.
  • If an answer was provided in the CSV, it will appear under the imported question.
After a large import, sort or filter your Q&A list (for example by status) to quickly spot items that still need review before publishing.

Export Product Questions & Answers

Export creates a CSV file containing your current Q&A data. Use it for backups, reporting, or moving data to another system.

Go to Rivyo → Reviews → Question & Answers.

Click Export (or the export option available on the Q&A page). Rivyo generates a CSV you can download.

Store the exported file in a secure location if it contains customer details (like name/email).

Export is especially helpful before making major changes (like bulk edits or platform migrations) so you always have a copy of your existing Q&A.

Troubleshooting

  • Check Rivyo → Reviews → Question & Answers and adjust filters (for example: show hidden/unpublished items).
  • Confirm your CSV rows include a valid product identifier that matches your Shopify products.
  • Make sure you didn’t change the template’s column headers.

Common causes include:

  • Missing required fields (product identifier, question text, or customer details).
  • Invalid or inconsistent product identifiers (handle/title doesn’t match the store).
  • Extra commas, line breaks, or special characters causing columns to shift.
Open the CSV in a plain-text editor to confirm each row has the same number of columns as the header row.
  • Confirm the Customer Name and Customer Email columns are not swapped.
  • Make sure your CSV is saved in UTF-8 if you use special characters.

Create a small CSV with 1–5 rows, import it, confirm the product matching and status behavior, then import your full file once the results look correct.

Best practices

  • Keep questions customer-friendly: write clear, specific questions that match what shoppers actually ask.
  • Publish intentionally: import as hidden/unpublished first if you want to review wording before showing it on your storefront.
  • Back up regularly: export your Q&A before major store changes or app migrations.
