Automatic Review Requests

Overview

Automatic Review Requests let Rivyo email customers after they buy, so you can collect product reviews without sending requests manually. Once enabled, Rivyo sends a review request email based on your timing rules. Customers can open the email, click through, and submit feedback using the Rivyo review form.

For the best review quality, start timing from Order fulfilled and send the first email after the customer has time to receive and use the product.

Enable Automatic Review Requests

In your Shopify admin, open Rivyo, then go to Collect Reviews → Review Requests.

Open the Review Automation tab and enable Automatic Review Requests.

Review your Timing, Audience, and Email controls (below). Rivyo will send emails using these rules going forward.

Automatic Review Requests only send to customers who have a valid email address on the order.

Automation and timing settings

Timing settings control when Rivyo sends the first email and any reminders.

Start timing from

  • Order fulfilled (Recommended) — Sends requests after fulfillment, giving customers time to receive and try the product before reviewing.
  • Order placed — Sends requests based on the order date, regardless of fulfillment status.
If you sell items with longer delivery times or made-to-order products, starting from Order placed can send requests before the customer receives the item.

Send first email

Choose how long Rivyo waits before sending the first review request email.

  • Example: Send the email 1 day after fulfillment.
  • Use a longer delay for products that need time to experience (skincare, supplements, high-consideration items).

Send reminder email

Optionally send a reminder if the customer hasn’t submitted a review after the first email.

  • Example: Send a reminder 2 days after the first email if no review is submitted.
  • Reminders can increase review volume without requiring extra manual work.
Keep reminders limited (for example, one reminder) and space them out. Too many emails can reduce engagement and increase unsubscribes.

Audience rules (who receives emails)

Audience rules help you control which customers are eligible to receive review request emails.

Send to repeat customers only

Enable this option if you only want review requests sent to customers who have purchased before.

  • Set the minimum number of completed orders required before a customer receives review requests.
  • This is helpful if you want reviews primarily from more engaged, returning customers.
If you want to collect as many reviews as possible (especially for new stores or new product launches), leave this option disabled so first-time customers can review too.

Review email controls (prevent unnecessary emails)

These settings reduce duplicate requests and help ensure customers only receive relevant review emails.

Stop sending requests if customer already reviewed

When enabled, Rivyo will stop sending review request emails (including reminders) once the customer has submitted a review for the purchased product(s).

This is recommended for most stores. It prevents customers who already reviewed from receiving follow-up reminders.

How Rivyo decides whether to send a reminder

  • If the customer submits a review after the first email, Rivyo does not send the reminder.
  • If the customer does not submit a review within your reminder window, Rivyo sends the reminder (if enabled).

Recommended setup (best-practice defaults)

If you’re not sure where to start, these settings are a strong baseline for most Shopify stores:

  • Start timing from: Order fulfilled
  • First email: 7–14 days after fulfillment (shorter for fast-delivery items, longer for products that take time to use)
  • Reminder: 3–7 days after the first email
  • Stop sending if customer already reviewed: Enabled
  • Repeat customers only: Disabled (enable only if you intentionally want to limit requests)

FAQ

Fulfillment usually aligns better with the customer’s real experience. It reduces the chance of requesting a review before the product arrives, which can lead to lower-quality reviews or lower response rates.

Rivyo sends the first review request email based on your timing settings. If reminders are enabled, it may send a reminder only when the customer hasn’t submitted a review yet. If Stop sending requests if customer already reviewed is enabled, Rivyo will not continue emailing customers who already left a review.

Reminders typically increase the number of reviews collected. A single reminder is a good balance for most stores—helpful without overwhelming customers.

Use it if you want to limit review requests to customers with an established relationship with your brand (for example, to prioritize more informed reviews). If you are growing your store or launching new products, consider leaving it off to capture more reviews.
