How to Set Up VIP Tiers
Overview
VIP tiers let you reward your most loyal customers with better perks as they earn more points. You can create multiple levels, set the point requirement for each tier, and assign benefits that make higher tiers more valuable.
A clear tier structure helps customers understand what they are working toward and gives them a reason to keep earning points.
Before you start
- Decide how many tiers you want to offer. For most programs, 2 to 4 tiers is a good starting point.
- Choose the points required for each tier.
- Plan benefits that feel more valuable at each level, such as exclusive rewards, better discounts, or early access perks.
Set up VIP tiers
In the app, go to Loyalty Program, then select VIP Tier.
This is where you create, edit, and organize all customer tiers.
Click Add new tier.
Enter a clear tier name, such as Bronze, Silver, or Gold. Choose names that customers will recognize easily in your loyalty program.
In Tier access, enter the number of points a customer must have to reach that tier.
For your starting tier, this is often 0 points. Higher tiers should require more points than the level below them.
Click Add Benefits.
Choose the rewards or perks customers will receive when they qualify for that tier. Make sure each new tier offers stronger or more exclusive benefits than the previous one.
Save your changes to create the tier.
Repeat the same process for each additional tier you want to add.
Example tier structure
Here is a simple 3-tier setup you can use as a starting point:
- Bronze — 0 points
- Silver — 500 points
- Gold — 1000 points
How to choose good tier requirements
- Keep the first tier easy to join so customers feel included right away.
- Space tiers clearly so each level feels like a meaningful milestone.
- Match requirements to customer behavior by choosing point goals that regular customers can realistically reach over time.
- Make higher tiers feel special with stronger rewards, not just a new name.
Best practices
- Start with 2 to 3 tiers if you are setting up VIP levels for the first time.
- Use simple, recognizable names for each tier.
- Make sure every higher tier includes more value than the one before it.
- Review your points thresholds regularly to keep tiers achievable and motivating.
- Avoid adding too many tiers, which can make the program harder for customers to understand.
Common setup mistakes to avoid
Too many levels can make your program feel complicated. Keep your structure easy to understand so customers always know what they are working toward.
If the rewards are not valuable, customers may not feel motivated to earn more points. Give each higher tier a clear reason to aim for it.
If customers rarely reach a tier, it can reduce engagement. Choose thresholds that fit your typical purchase patterns and loyalty activity.
Always build tiers from lowest to highest requirement. This makes the upgrade path easier to manage and easier for customers to understand.
After setup
Once your VIP tiers are live, monitor how customers move through the levels. If very few customers are reaching higher tiers, consider lowering the point requirement or improving the benefits. If customers are reaching top tiers too quickly, you may want to raise the threshold or add more exclusive perks.
A strong VIP tier setup should feel easy to understand, rewarding to join, and motivating to progress through.
